Buzz Whiting informed me about this site. I thank him so much.
I was Sandy Landtroop. I have very vague memories of the explosion, but I do remember the chaos and having to camp outside our home on 12th Avenue with other neighbors for fear of our gas lines erupting.
Texas City was an absolutely great place to be raised in the 40's and 50's. It was a time when the kids played outside, chased lightening bugs and the parents were not in fear one of them would dissappear...
On occasion when I have the opportunity to visit with one of the members of my class of 59', **** Dickey, he said the same thing. We were so blessed to be there at that time in history.
In our neighborhood, all the kids would play outside and when Mr. Landtroop whistled for Sandy and Lanny, all the other kids had to go home too. Such wonderful memories.
